A relatively low-maintenance material, concrete driveways require very little upkeep. Here are 3 tips that can help keep your driveway beautiful for decades to come.
1. Power Washing & Resealing
Following the initial sealing of your driveway, we recommend a good powerwash and resealing every two years or so, depending on the amount of wear and tear your driveway encounters. Powerwashing typically removes even the toughest of stains, but it’s still a good habit to remove harmful substances, such as grease and oil, immediately to avoid any lasting damage.
2. Avoid Salt In the Winter
During those harsh South Jersey winters, you’ll want to treat your driveway with a little extra care. Avoid harsh deicing agents and opt for rock salt or calcium chloride. If possible, we recommend using sand for traction and forgoing salt altogether. Even natural salt has corrosive tendencies, and new concrete is particularly susceptible to its effects.
3. Skip Metal Shovels or Plows
When shoveling snow, be mindful of the type of shovel or plow you use on your driveway. Metal blades and shovels have the potential to leave marks or scratches on concrete.
While none of these tips are mandatory, and skipping them won’t dramatically damage your driveway, we highly recommend following them. Taking a little extra time to care for your driveway will keep it looking brand new much longer.
